DELAWARE COUNTY, NEW YORK

  • TOWN OF HANCOCK

View of the Delaware River from Hancock

Hancock is located along the New York/Pennsylvania border in the southern portion of the county. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 161.8 square miles and a 2010 Census population of 3,224 people. The town includes the village of Hancock as well as the hamlets of Cadosia, East Branch, Fishs Eddy, French Woods, Harvard, Islamburg, Lordville, Peas Eddy, and Readburn.

    History

The town of Hancock, NY, has a rich history of many things, including sports. The most popular sports perhaps are baseball and fishing. Fly fishing is extremely popular due to the Upper Delaware River (UDR), which flows right through the town. The River is a large economic engine that powers many businesses in Hancock and neighboring areas. The Hancock Golf Course was designed in 1941 by famed golf architect, Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

Baseball has been a part of Hancock for generations. A local Hancock native, Eddie Murphy, was a professional baseball player in the major leagues. "Honest Eddie" Murphy appeared in three World Series during his time in the MLB.
